Fun outdoor activities for small children

Summer is almost over, but we decided to take full advantage of good weather and spend as much time out as possible. Our 3 years old daughter gets bored quickly, as most kids do, that is why we always think of a fun and engaging activity before we go outside. Fortunately, there are a lot of fun outdoor activities for small children to choose from.

Fun outdoors activities for small children during late summer and autumn:

Gather fallen leaves and acorns and use them as craft materials

We live nearby a beautiful forest, so we occasionally we take long walks through the forest. So it happens that we always get home with a lot of green, yellow or brown leaves and acorns. They are great as craft materials for various decorative objects or we create funny figurines with hats and autumn themed collages.

Outdoor dancing

When we go outside, we sometimes take our portable bluetooth speaker with us. Our daughter and her friends love to dance together in nature. Her favorite dancing songs are: Tschu Tschu WaAram Sam Sam (she studies German in kindergarten), and Socu, Bate, Vira. Dancing in nature is a great way to exercise and have lots of fun, at the same time.

Scavenger hunt games

We recently bought Outdoor Nature Scavenger Hunt card game for families. It is a great game that can be played by the entire family. The game is based on utilizing all your senses and it can last from a few minutes to the whole day. We warmly recommend it.

Launch and Catch the Ball

We usually try to do a lot of outdoor exercise. A good way to achieve this is to play Pop ‘N Catch. This is a fun game for everyone in the family (ages 3 to adult). It is a great for hand-eye coordination, plus a fun way to keep kids active and entertained.

Fly a kite

We love to go to the park when the wind is light and fly our kite. We have this Rainbow Kite for Kids which is extremely easy to control. Flying a kite is a fun activity for both children and adults It also helps children to develop coordination and critical thinking skills in a very practical setting.

Play with bubbles

Last summer we bought WOWmazing Giant Bubble Wands Kit. Our daughter was fascinated and very surprised by the giant bubbles we made for her. Although she can make the bubbles herself yet, she loves to watch the giant bubbles float.

Painting rocks and play hide and seek with them

Our daughter loves to paint, especially rocks and shells. So, we got inspired by this kit: Creativity for Kids Hide and Seek Rock Painting Kit and started painting rocks together. Then, me and my husband hid them outside and let our girl find them. She has lots of fun painting and finding them, too.

Outdoor Exploration

Children love to explore. Our daughter loves insects and plants, too. An outdoor fun activity which involves all these is exploration. We use Adventure Kidz – Outdoor Exploration Kit during forest hiking. It is a kit that supports STEM Learning and encourages scientific exploration and the love of nature. The kids can also use it to explore their own backyard or during camping trips.

Scooter Riding

Our girl likes to ride all kinds of vehicles, as all children do, but she especially enjoys riding her Micro Mini Deluxe Kick Scooter. Me and my husband have scooters too, so itโ€™s a lot of fun to get out in the park and ride our scooters together. This activity is great for children because, besides all the fun and exercise it provides, it also helps them develop balance and coordination.

Well, these are some of the fun outdoor activities we plan to do before winter comes.

What are your childrenโ€™s favorite outdoor activities? Do share with us, so we can extend the list!
